Emmerdale’s Shocking Cast Shake-up: You Won’t Believe Who Is Leaving and Returning!
Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Emmerdale fans have been surprised by a series of cast updates in recent weeks, as news dropped about familiar faces who’ll be bowing out this year.
While regular comings and goings are all part of life in Soapland, some of the rumours and leaks have been real curveballs.
Here, we round up the news so far…
At the end of March, it was reported that Dawn is set to leave the Dales after eight years on the show.
On-set sources suggested that Emmerdale had done all they could with the character, who has been at the centre of dramatic Home Farm storylines over the past few years.
The news was said to have surprised cast on set, as Olivia Bromley – who plays Dawn – is so popular with the Emmerdale team.
Show bosses haven’t responded to the reports so far, although that’s standard practice as the ITV soap tends not to comment on cast contracts.
Since then, though, there have been tell-tale signs that Dawn’s relationship with Joe Tate is heading towards a cliff edge.
Dawn’s been left shocked by various examples of Joe’s horrible behaviour and she recently warned that if he didn’t stop feuding with the Dingles, she’d leave him.
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw did recently describe Dawn and Joe’s relationship as a “love story” and noted that Dawn lives in hope of her partner changing his ways.
Could it all end in tears, though?
Earlier this month, Emmerdale fans were shocked by one of the most surprising exit reports we’ve seen in a while. Sources revealed that Nick Miles, who plays Jimmy King, is being written out after an incredible 22-year run in the show.
Jimmy is a true fan favourite and his partnership with wife Nicola has provided one of the ITV soap’s best double acts. However, it’s rumoured that Jimmy could be killed off as part of a major stunt storyline later this year.
The jaw-dropping exit plot could tie in with the return of Jimmy’s ex-wife Sadie King, who’ll be back on screen later this year.
There’s been no official word from Emmerdale over whether the reports of a death are true – but it’s not looking good!
Last weekend, Vinny Dingle joined the list of Emmerdale departures – just months after his character went in an unexpected new direction.
After questioning his sexuality, Vinny started a new relationship with Lewis Barton and the couple are currently loved-up. But are things about to turn sour?

Reports say that Vinny is exiting the soap in a dramatic storyline later in the year.
Again, this is said to be a sad time for the cast, as Bradley Johnson – who plays Vinny – is so well-liked by his fellow Dingle colleagues, especially on-screen mum Lisa Riley (Mandy).
Could Vinny be a victim of the upcoming stunt? Or is he set to leave heartbroken if things with Lewis go wrong?
Lewis’s long-lost dad Kev Townsend, played by Chris Coghill, is coming back to Emmerdale after making a big impression in his initial two stints last year.
Kev was last seen on New Year’s Day, and was recently mentioned on screen when Robert Sugden discovered that he was back in prison. He’ll now be returning to the village to open up a new business venture.
“Both Chris and the character of Kev made a massive impact on the show last year, so Chris is most definitely back by popular demand,” show producer Laura Shaw said recently.
“With Kev’s son Lewis in the village still unaware of who his father is, it’s safe to say that there’s a lot of unfinished business and drama ahead.”
Chris added: “I’m really pleased to be returning to Emmerdale, I had a brilliant time last year. Kev is a complex character that I love playing. He has psychopathic tendencies but also an energy and vulnerability that I think makes him pretty unique. I’m properly looking forward to getting back at it.”
Show bosses have confirmed that Kev is back to connect with Lewis, and he won’t be causing trouble for Robert and Aaron Dingle this time.
After weeks of rumours, Emmerdale bosses recently confirmed that Patsy Kensit is reprising her role as Sadie King after 20 years away.
Firm storyline details of what brings her back are being kept under wraps for now, but the likes of Cain Dingle, Charity Dingle and Jimmy King may want to brace themselves!
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Patsy Kensit back to the cast and crucially to see the iconic Sadie King storm back into the village,” producer Laura Shaw said this month.
“Her return will be explosive and guaranteed to shock. Sadie’s seductive demeanor, combined with her utterly ruthless nature, are set to deliver a spectacular and highly dramatic touch of class to the Yorkshire Dales.”
Patsy Kensit added: “I am really excited to return to Emmerdale. I treasure the years I was here before. Sadie King is a character that I really loved playing. The cast and crew are absolutely brilliant and I am so grateful for the chance to return to the show, it’s absolutely amazing.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
