Caroline Harker & Michelle Hardwick React To Dr Todd Scenes | Emmerdale

Hello there. Look who I’m with. This lovely lady in real life. We’re about to watch some cuz we don’t know what we’re going to see. Got no idea what we’re about to see. >> Do you think she should be redeemable? >> If she was born again. >> Oh, no. Does she really hate herself? >> Good old Joe. Go on. Stand up to her. >> Yes. >> Yes. >> Go on, Jacob. >> Hit play, okay? >> I just wanted to say I’m sorry again if when I took your blood. >> Oh, that was in the hide when that was That was our first day. First day we met. >> This morning when you mentioned my >> at Joe. He looks upset. >> What did you mean? >> Oh, Cabernet. I didn’t know you were listening to that. What was that? Do you think I meant? >> Well, it sounded like you knew about what happened. >> Oh, that was about your dad. This is when I pretend to cry, isn’t it? Do you remember? >> Your dad just died, hadn’t he? >> I had no idea. But you were the student. Who is she? >> So when you said >> No, I did. She’s doing terrible pretending. >> idea. >> Yeah. >> Jacob. >> She’s pretending. She’s going to turn on the waterworks in a minute. You won’t >> a mistake. What actually are you accusing me of? >> Nobody No wonder Vanessa’s taking it cuz you looked like you were really upset. >> exactly. Exactly. And my dad has just died, you know. You have to be sympathetic, right? >> I am so sorry. >> Poor Jacob. He gets it. >> know what >> He gets it completely wrong by mistake. >> Not this time. His DNR was finally respected. >> yeah. Any opportunity to torture him. Isn’t it, really? >> Poor Jacob. >> Yeah. That was That was the first scene that we’d actually done together. >> Yeah. That was the first scene. That was the day that we met. Then we kept doing acting. We kept having to stop talking to do some acting. >> But isn’t Joe fantastic? And it’s really hard being horrible to him because he is I adore him. >> He’s just >> I mean, we get on so well together. It is so difficult to be nasty. >> So lovely with those puppy dog eyes and like, you know, my character’s known him since obviously she was eight, which means I have known him in real life since he was about eight. >> I’m so sorry he got wrapped up in all this. >> Yeah, me too. >> It’s just wrong. It’s just very wrong. I know. >> Right, we’re ready. Oh, god. >> ready. >> This is scary. >> Yeah, it’s a bit. >> Normally, I wouldn’t toot my own horn, but right now, given the circumstances, I think it’s rather imperative that I do. >> is interesting this scene because it’s kind of like she advertises herself to him in a weird way. It’s a strange one to play. Because she’s furious, but she’s also telling him how fantastic she is. >> How many under pressure are you going to be down a key? >> It’s like she waits to be stopped. Do you know what I mean? But she carries on. >> She just keeps pushing his buttons. I mean, look at him. >> I mean, there are these people. >> But he’s started that scene he’s come in saying sorry. And now look, he’s starting to have a go at her, so it makes it you made it just turn the whole scene around. >> The situation. But and she does that quite a lot, but in this one I think she is In this one, I think she doesn’t want him to do it. I think she wants to win this one. And she’s uncomfortable because she knows that he’s got information on her. So, she’s in trouble here. Yeah. >> She looks a bit panicked there. >> Yeah, yeah, she is. She’s panicking here. Because she loves, she wants, doesn’t want to lose her job. That’s her control. That’s her power. You know? >> But unlike you, I know my faults and I’m facing them. >> Yeah. Good old Joe. Go on, stand up to her. >> Yes! >> Yes! >> Go on, Jacob. >> to HR is not a good look. You pursue this, little dog you, the whole of your career. >> That’s not fair. Thanks for what you did. >> Yes, Joe. Yes. Well, I like that. Told her. >> But that’s what she does. She manipulates all situations. >> It’s horrible being horrible to an actor like that. But in it’s a challenge and you sort of have to jump off that cliff and do it. And you can’t half do it. >> Oh, no, you’ve got to commit to it, otherwise it’s not going to work, is it? >> But >> but in a way, that’s clever about the writing cuz they don’t pull their punches. And it would be really easy to just always show a nicer side or a glimpse of something. And she that that look at the end of that was about the only time she’s felt sorry for herself in a scene so far. >> Okay. >> And who cares? >> felt sorry for herself. >> Yes, exactly. >> Not anybody else. >> No. No, she doesn’t. She doesn’t. She doesn’t know how to. >> Oh, do you think she’s always been like that? >> Um no, I think it was formed, but I think she needed to be unraveled when she was younger. I think there’s this sort of psychologically. And she kind of hurts people to cuz it makes her feel better. I mean, we could go on about the psychology of it forever. >> redeemable? >> Um I think if she was born again, possibly. >> Oh, no. I hope I’m not in this one. >> I don’t mind Vanessa. I don’t. >> Yeah, yeah. I hope I’m not in this one. You come into the toilet scene. >> Yes, yes, yes. >> Wrong door. >> I’m not letting this go. No way. >> Oh, no. What’s he going to >> that shot though. I must have written that out to Hilton the >> I watched this and it was so beautifully >> shot though, yeah. >> I don’t chestnut again. Do you get off on it? >> clever in the amount of time that you have to do it that you can establish a shot like that and that we both remained in that shot. from the crew and everybody. You know what I mean? >> Yeah, cuz one little move from you could have blocked him. >> It’s extraordinary, isn’t it? >> If the woman hating cap fits. >> Are you serious? >> You’re winding him that much. >> Yeah, good. >> And that’s when Vanessa comes in. >> What the hell are you doing? >> have looked like he was going to hit me. >> But >> But you’re in the right. >> Paul. Oh, look at her smirk. She’s shocking him. >> You see that? >> Yeah. >> First of all, yeah, me trying to stick up for Vanessa here. He’s in the ladies’ toilets. Vanessa’s just going in to spend a penny or whatever. And that she just walks in and he’s just there in your face. Well, really in your face. So, she then has a go at Jacob in the shop. >> Yeah. >> Oh, but I remember but I remember but I remember reading reading the scene and I audibly gasped out loud because there’s one line where Vanessa had to say I hate to say this Jacob, but your mother would be ashamed of you. >> Awful. Well, I suppose it shows her warmth towards this woman that she likes. She thinks that he’s behaving just immaturely. >> Yeah, maybe. >> know what I mean? Just like pull yourself together. >> But the thing is with Vanessa, she is as soon as anyone gives her the slightest bit of attention, her head’s just turned. And then at the end of that scene Vanessa said something like Um oh my goodness, he’s got no idea how lucky he is to have a boss like you. >> I know. I know. >> Oh, she >> accepts it. She feels no fear in going yeah. >> I know. Look what she loves that. >> She loves that. >> She loves that adoration. >> It’s very complicated psychology cuz he hates himself and that’s where it comes from. Always very complicated. >> Does she really hate herself? >> Um way back, I think. >> Oh, I don’t know. I need a psychology degree, I think. But >> You need it. >> We could. We could. >> We’ll need it after this. >> Oh, I haven’t seen this. >> I have. >> Have you? >> It’s brilliant. >> No idea how that works. >> I’m like James. >> No. >> I know I’m asking a lot. But I’m going to need you to retract that statement. Whatever’s in that file >> But there’s a moment in it when she realizes what’s going on. She doesn’t see it. >> for an excellent read, Jacob. A real page turner. >> But it’s not true. >> He’s got strength, hasn’t he, Joe? Do you know what I mean? Jacob. Joe as Jacob. He’s got great strength. Yeah. He’s going to be a great daughter. I love things about Hilton. He gave us a real free ride. >> actually admitting it. >> I want to make you the best doctor you can be. You’re never going to be a doctor. You’re not smart >> Is that why you popped it? >> Yeah. >> You see, he was great. That You know You had to make it believable that I knew that that was in his back pocket. So she said grab him. Get too close. >> Yeah. >> I don’t know. Maybe I just enjoy it. >> looking for it there. >> It’s like popping balloons. >> And I think that hurt actually cuz I did it to myself later on in the den. I thought, “Why did I do that?” I was so Well, Matt told me to come up here. >> Come up here. >> What are you doing? >> It’s a fumble. >> here? >> Secretly recording me. Oh, when were you born, Jacob? In the ’90s? >> Give it back to me. >> Yeah, you don’t want me to accuse me of theft as well, do we? >> It is uncomfortable to watch, isn’t it? >> Yeah, really uncomfortable. Bullying. Bullying on a major scale. >> balloons. Now, get out of my house. >> Horrible. >> your house. It’s my >> I know. >> I know. >> Okay. >> That was a really powerful scene, I thought. >> Yeah. >> I had a chat about you with Vanessa. Oh, you’ve had a busy life. >> Which I didn’t have. How did I find it all out if you didn’t tell me? You did tell me a bit. >> It must have been off screen. >> Yeah, off screen, but would you have told me all that? She can’t believe that you told me all that. >> Maybe they had a drink. >> It doesn’t take much for Vanessa just to get giddy. But charity >> Charity’s a maze that you told me that. >> You haven’t exactly covered yourself in glory, have you? >> That was then. >> Was it? >> Because most people learn from their mistakes, but you, on the other hand, >> your mum, Prue, tell you stuff as well? >> That’s it. >> But then I suppose >> What did Prue tell you? I just forgot. >> I eat shabby little tarts like you for breakfast. >> Yeah, you have to wear >> If you knew I’d done that, you wouldn’t come near me. You certainly wouldn’t have a spare room, would you? >> pension. >> The way I see it is >> It’s quite wordy when you’re trying to be physical as well. >> Maintaining my dad’s >> expecting that at all. That’s just I really mean it, June. >> So, she wants 10,000 >> 10,000 by tomorrow. >> Or Sarah and Jacob find out who they are. >> Do you know what I mean? >> Yes, it was the all That all went so quickly then, and that That makes me jump. >> to kill, isn’t it? >> Yeah. Did you have a fight director on that? >> No. >> Didn’t you? >> We did that all ourselves, that grab. >> No, you didn’t. >> YES, WE DID. >> YES, YES, YES. >> Oh my goodness. >> Yeah, nothing. >> I know. What’s interesting is like what we’re doing on screen, those characters, you know, Dr. Todd being that bully, not just in the workplace, like, you know, everywhere. She’s She’s just not a good egg, is she? It happens in real life. >> Oh, it does. >> That it happens. And probably way more than you’d ever think. You know, you You know, people could watch that and it’s entertainment or whatever and just they they they finish watching Emmerdale and then they stop thinking about it, whereas people could be watching that and and realizing that actually that’s happening to me >> Yeah. >> at work. >> Yeah. Or sadly, that is the case, I think. And also they know it. I mean, they might not they might realize it before and just have it confirmed or have it reminded and oh, it’s horrible. It does happen. And the amount of people that I’ve spoken to that said things like, “Oh, yeah, my brother was bullied in the workplace.” And by a woman, you know, it’s so awful.
