Recently, Charity was sexually assaulted by evil Dr Todd, who has been coercing her for weeks over the true parentage of baby Leyla.
Charity served as a surrogate for granddaughter Sarah Sugden and Sarah’s husband Jacob Gallagher, giving birth to baby Leyla. However, Charity has kept the new parents in the dark about the fact that she and Ross Barton are actually Leyla’s biological parents, the result of an affair.
After Dr Todd discovered this secret, she demanded £100,000 from the co-owner of the Woolpack, and things took a horrifying turn when Dr Todd sexually assaulted Charity on Sunday’s episode.
In the aftermath of the assault, Charity courageously reported Dr Todd to the police and spoke with a female officer, DS Reid, who viewers immediately recognised as former Coronation Street actress Angela Lonsdale.
And now, new details surrounding the storyline have been revealed on Wednesday’s This Morning. Soap expert, Sharon Marshall, spoke about the storyline and showed an exclusive clip from upcoming Emmerdale scenes.

Sharon, 54, said: “Some very disturbing scenes on Sunday as Charity was assaulted. She bravely went to the police. Now, can they come and take action against Dr. Todd and bring her to justice?”
To which an Emmerdale spoiler clip teased the moment Dr Todd is arrested in the village by DS Reid, who says: “Dr Caitlin Todd? I’m here regarding an allegation of a sexual assault”, thereby teasing the evil doctor’s downfall.

Sharon added after the clip: “Lovely to see Angela Lonsdale as well, playing a copper like she did in Corrie, of course.
“But I love the fact that Charity reported this. She went straight there. But what she cannot bring herself to do is to tell her family.
“She hides the truth. She says she’s got postnatal depression. She starts taking medication. But that’s making Sarah feel even more guilty because she thinks she’s brought it on.”

Issuing a teaser update on the storyline, Sharon confirmed: “But I’m told that ultimately, this is going to be a story about hope and resilience.”
Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX
