Fans of Emmerdale believe they’ve worked out Dr Todd’s downfall, but she doesn’t end up behind bars.

ITV soap watchers will know that Dr Caitlin Todd (played by Caroline Harker) has been blackmailing Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) for weeks over the real parentage of Leyla Sugden.

The plot took an extremely sinister turn at the weekend when Dr Todd sexually assaulted Charity at Jacobs Fold in harrowing scenes. After briefly appearing at her granddaughter Sarah’s (Katie Hill) 21st birthday celebration, Charity rushed to the police station to report Todd.

Todd was brought in for police questioning on Wednesday (June 10), with the evil doctor fabricating her version of events with Charity. She told officers that they had consensual sex, claiming Charity had been “pursuing me relentlessly for weeks”.

With insufficient evidence to officially charge Todd, the detectives reluctantly released her while further investigations continued, and it wasn’t long before the villain turned up at Charity’s doorstep, reports the Express.

“What a load of rubbish! But then you’d know all about that, wouldn’t you?” Todd said, with Charity urging her to “get out”.

Todd went on: “I’m not the one making up fairy stories, am I?” Charity said: “We both know what you did,” before Todd warned: “And I know what you and Ross [Barton] did. Difference is, there’s only one of us whose little tale can be corroborated.”

The villain continued to torment Charity, declaring: “See, the thing about accusations is, if they’re not true, they quickly fall apart… There has to be some kind of proof in their DNA, if you catch my drift. Otherwise, it’s all just heresay. And it’s hearsay from a proven liar, so it’s not worth the breath it hangs on.”

Later, DS Reid (Angela Lonsdale) visited Charity, revealing that her medical examination results had come back as inconclusive, leaving Charity feeling hopeless.

Todd was later seen departing the village for her new job in Sheffield, but could this mark her final appearance?

Emmerdale fans remain convinced that Todd will face consequences for her behaviour, but not in the way you might expect.

Several viewers believe that the doctor could face her downfall through legal action from Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant), following her vicious harassment of him at the hospital.

This development might encourage Charity to reconsider her decision to withdraw her statement against Todd.

One individual posted on Reddit: “Why don’t Jacob and the other interns bullied by Todd band together? They could have looked at no-win/no-fee lawyers for a civil lawsuit against her. I don’t understand why the whole thing was dropped just because Todd retired. If it went to court, any compensation could have been paid out upon the sale of the house in Sheffield. She needs to be punished.”

Meanwhile, another viewer expressed: “As much as I hate Caitlin (Dr. Todd), I don’t want her exit to be where she gets away with what she did to Charity! She can’t just drive off,” with a third chiming in: “The Dingles need to band together and hunt Todd down.”
