Coronation Street and Emmerdale schedule chaos begins tonight as ITV soaps pulled from usual slots

ITV are shifting their schedules around again tonight – meaning Coronation Street and Emmerdale won’t be on our screens.

The channel will instead air coverage of the Women’s World Cup Qualifier, which will air between 7.30pm and 10:20pm.

Spain v England will kick-off from 8pm at Estadi Municipal de Son Moix, hosted by Seema Jaswal, and with analysis from Strictly winner Karen Carney and Anita Asante.

This is despite a new “power hour” format which was launched in January to provide consistency to viewers. ITV reduced their weekly soaps output from six to five episodes, airing for 30 minutes each from 8pm on weekdays.

ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment Kevin Lygo said: “We believe this is the right amount of episodes that fans can fit into their viewing schedule, to keep up to date with the shows,”

“Research insights also show us that soap viewers are increasingly looking to the soaps for their pacey storytelling. Streaming-friendly, 30-minute episodes better provide the opportunity to meet viewer expectations for storyline pace, pay-off and resolution.”

However, on numerous occasions since then, they’ve been taken off the air for sports coverage.

When are Coronation Street and Emmerdale next on?

Episodes for both Corrie and Emmerdale that would’ve aired tonight, Friday 5 June will be taken off air.

Fear not, as our next trip to soapland will be on Sunday 7 June between 8 and 9pm.

The following Tuesday 9 June will see them off air again as a result of the Women’s European Qualifier between England and Ukraine.
