Only recently, Dr Todd uncovered the true biological parentage of baby Leyla. Charity had served as a surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah Sugden and Sarah’s husband Jacob Gallagher, bringing the adorable baby Leyla into the world.
However, what Charity concealed from Sarah and Jacob is that Leyla is not biologically theirs — the baby’s true parentage is Charity and Ross Barton, following a brief fling between the pair.
Charity had desperately tried to keep the secret under wraps, but it wasn’t long before the villainous Dr Todd — who has spent months tormenting trainee doctor Jacob at the hospital — uncovered the truth and has been blackmailing Charity ever since.
The scheming doctor has demanded a staggering £100,000 from the Woolpack co-owner, leaving Charity in a state of desperation. Matters then took a deeply disturbing turn when Dr Todd sexually assaulted Charity in Sunday’s episode.
Monday’s instalment depicted the heartbreaking fallout as Charity struggled to come to terms with what had happened. After attempting to join her loved ones at the pub for granddaughter Sarah’s 21st birthday celebrations, a visibly distressed Charity fled the gathering.
Later, Charity summoned the courage to visit the police station and report Dr Todd to the authorities. Charity spoke to a female police officer called DS Reid.

Soap watchers were quick to do a double take during the scenes as they instantly recognised the actress playing the character. DS Reid is played by actress Angela Lonsdale.

Taking to social media, soap watchers were quick to point out the crossover, especially as Angela was playing another police officer.
One person said: “Good to see Emma Watts is still on the force. #Emmerdale #Corriedale” while another fan put: “Wow, Emma Watts got promoted! One for the #Corrie long time watchers #Emmerdale.”
