First look at Sandra Oh’s highly-anticipated UK theatre debut will leave you speechless!

Get a first look at the Killing Eve star in her National Theatre debut.

Despite becoming a mainstay of British TV in 2018 with her starring role in Killing Eve, Sandra Oh has never set foot on the UK stage – until this month.

The Grey’s Anatomy icon will be making her debut in just two short weeks in a new adaptation of Molière’s The Misanthrope and first looks have now been revealed.

This new staging of the comedy sees Oh play Alice – a 21st century version of Alceste – a cynical novelist who loves to challenge fashionable ideas and support causes that others are too afraid to lend their voices to.

But, off the back of her sharp tongue she faces intense criticism, backlash and learns the price she must pay as an artist and as a woman for daring to speak her mind.

Originally written in the 17th century the play version has been updated by National Theatre Director Indhu Rubasingham and will run from 16 June to 1 August 2026.

In an exclusive first look from the National Theatre, we see Oh looking animated and excited as she interacts with fellow actors Paul Chahidi as John, Abigail Cruttenden as Claire, Imogen Elliott as Esmée, Rina Fatania as Indira, Freddie MacBruce as Allen, Tom Mison as Stefan, and Jemima Rooper as Elaine.

Despite looking perfectly at home though, Oh previously gave an interview to The One Show where she admitted to feeling “terrible” about her debut.

She said: “It feels terrible because you’re trying things for the first time and you’re just standing there and you’re like: ‘I don’t know how to move my arms.’ Or it’s like: ‘I just have egg on my face,’ or I’m looking at someone and I completely go blank. But these are the things that you kind of have to go through to craft the play and craft a character.”

She added: “I can’t wait to get up on stage. You know what I mean? There’s something that I love [about] being an actor. The process of also being in rehearsal, it’s such a sacred space. You really get to try things. That’s the time that you are really exercising your instinct and who you are to the utmost.”

On the subject of her character, Oh said she was drawn to Alice’s honesty: “I have been very fortunate in playing very strong female characters. You know, what Alice is kind of pointing to with all the rage that I think many of us have, it’s a great opportunity to kind of be a truth teller.”

“Very rarely do you get to play a character where you can describe and say exactly what you mean.”

The Misanthrope will run at the National Theatre 16 June to 1 August 2026 and you can find tickets at TodayTix.
