George’s shocking revelation could spell the end for Coronation Street’s Summer | Soaps

This article contains spoilers for tonight’s (Wednesday, May 20) Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on YouTube and ITVX.

Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) has been under close scrutiny from the police in recent Coronation Street scenes, and George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) may just have handed them the smoking gun to officially charge her with Theo Silverton’s murder.

Viewers will recall that Theo was killed last month as part of the flash-forward murder storyline.

Theo wasn’t the most popular of characters in his final days, especially after his abuse of husband Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) was exposed. Because of this, there are countless suspects in the frame, and the police have their work cut out to catch the killer.

Summer became the prime suspect earlier this week when Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) spotted her in the back of one of Lisa Connor-Swain’s (Vicky Myers) wedding snaps, wearing the brooch they found in Theo’s flat.

To make matters worse, George had found Summer’s diary, where she had written about her hatred of Theo in excruciating detail.

In tonight’s episode, a lead in the case threw suspicion back onto Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) when it contradicted her previous statement.

Lisa wasted no time in questioning her about it, though Christina assured George it was nothing to worry about.

However, she was quick to encourage him to tell the police the truth about Summer and what he’d seen on the night of the murder.

Earlier this week, a flashback revealed that George had spotted Summer walking away from Theo’s flat the night he was killed. However, Summer had told the police that she hadn’t seen Theo that night.

George was in two minds about whether to snitch on Summer, but when Christina pointed out that he seemed to be the only other suspect, he was clearly rattled.

Later, when he bumped into Lisa outside the Rovers, she could tell that he was shifty and asked if he had anything to tell her.
