The Emmerdale cast has been left tearful after a beloved soap favourite confirmed their departure from the show.

Steph Miligan (Georgia Jay) made her first appearance on the ITV soap in 2024, arriving as the estranged daughter of Ruby (Beth Cordingly) and Caleb (William Ash).

Ruby’s father, Anthony (Nicholas Day), also joined the cast around the same time. As Anthony settled into the village, it became increasingly apparent that Ruby was concealing a dark secret about her father.

It was subsequently revealed that Anthony had abused Ruby when she was a teenager. In a shocking twist, it was also confirmed that Anthony was Steph’s biological father.

Once Anthony’s horrific crimes were brought to light, Ruby ensured he faced justice, with a number of other villagers implicated in the cover-up, including Caleb, Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) and Cain (Jeff Hordley), reports the Daily Star.

Upon learning the devastating truth about Anthony, Steph went off the rails, and in a harrowing turn of events, she attempted to alter her physical appearance. Thankfully, she was rescued by Ruby and Caleb, and subsequently sought therapy.

Steph was last seen on the long-running soap in August 2025, following actress Georgia Jay’s birth of a baby boy two months earlier. It was later reported that Georgia had chosen to leave Emmerdale to concentrate on motherhood.

Georgia has since confirmed her exit following her lengthy absence, taking to Instagram to share a collection of photographs from her time on the Emmerdale set. She captioned the post: “Can’t believe I left the village nearly a year ago! Miss you, Steph, and everyone who made it so special.”

Her fellow cast members were quick to show their support, flooding the comments section with warm messages. Lewis Barton actor Bradley Riches wrote: “Miss you xx.” Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chas Dingle, also chimed in: “Miss you, lady.”

Meanwhile, devoted fans were equally vocal in expressing their feelings, with one writing: “Gutted you are not coming back.” Another added: “Aww, we miss you so much, you were sooo good.” A third commented: “I really hope you are coming back. Steph was a great character; she is sorely missed.”

Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX
