You won’t believe how Sandra Oh is bringing ‘The Misanthrope’ to movie theaters near you!

Martin Crimp (Cyrano de Bergerac)’s contemporary-verse adaptation is readying to begin at London’s National.

London’s upcoming revival of Moliére’s The Misanthrope will broadcast to movie theatres beginning September 22. The production is set to play the National Theatre June 16-August 1, premiering a new adaptation by Martin Crimp (Cyrano de Bergerac) and directed by Indhu Rubasingham.

The production will star Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) as Alice, Paul Chahidi as John, Abigail Cruttenden as Claire, Imogen Elliott as Esmée, Rina Fatania as Indira, Freddie MacBruce as Allen, Tom Mison as Stefan, and Jemima Rooper as Elaine. The production’s child performers will be Arthur Blanc and Teddy Holton-Frances as Benjamin, and Francesca Fullilove and Poppy Townsend White as Madeleine. The production understudies will be Niamh James, Amira Matthews, Scott Sparrow, John Vernon, and Gabby Wong.

“Making my National Theatre debut in The Misanthrope and working with Indhu (Rubasingham) is incredibly special, and I’m so excited that audiences beyond the theatre will get the chance to experience this through National Theatre Live,” says Oh in a statement. “The National Theatre is one of the great homes of theatre, and NT Live has played such an important role in sharing that work with audiences around the world, extending the life of productions and opening them up to so many more people.”

The Misanthrope centers on Alice, a brilliant novelist who despises the hollow contemporary mantras of kindness and respect. But the bolder she becomes in speaking out, the more colleagues avoid her, and the more her personal relationships begin to fracture.

The creative team will include set and costume designer Robert Jones, lighting designer Tim Lutkin, composer Anna Meredith, sound designer Alexander Caplen, movement director Lucy Hind, voice coach Jeannette Nelson, associate director Gitika Buttoo and associate set and costume designer Ethan Cheek. Casting is by Alastair Coomer and Martin Poile.
