Former ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Sarah Drew calls out ‘brutal’ firing from show

Former “Grey’s Anatomy” actress Sarah Drew is opening up about being unexpectedly fired from the series.

Drew was on the podcast “Women In The Nude” and spoke about her dismissal from the hit ABC medical drama.

“It was pretty brutal because it came out of nowhere… absolutely no idea,” she told host Sasha Pieterse.

During an exit meeting, Drew asked the show’s bosses why she was being fired around 19 times and was only told that they had “run out of stories to tell.”

“What I’ve come to realize is my nine years on the show was amazing and I never would have left if they hadn’t have written me off,” she told Pieterse.

Drew played Dr. April Kepner on “Grey’s Anatomy,” joining the show during its sixth season in 2009.

“It was such a weird dichotomy because it hurt a lot in the moment but then the outpouring of love was so unbelievable and extraordinary from cast and crew,” the “Mistletoe Murders” star said.

GREY’S ANATOMY – “With You I’m Born Again” — After an unforgettable and heart-pounding season finale, “Grey’s Anatomy” returns for its seventh season on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. In the season premiere, the hospital staff is trying to deal with physical and emotional trauma in the wake of the deadly rampage of a vengeful gunman. As Dr. Perkins (James Tupper), a trauma counselor, is brought in to help in the recovery and to assess each doctor’s readiness to return to work, Derek makes a spontaneous decision to resign as Chief and rushes back into surgery, taking everything a little too fast, and Cristina buries herself in her wedding planning. “That was so exactly what I needed for that full circle closure. It was healing.”
